Simple account setup

Opened an Individual Margin Account. Minimum deposit was okay. Funding took about 3 days. Traded some Forex. Fees seemed fair. Platform worked fine. No complaints.

Good value for my money

I was looking to switch from my old bank for my RRSP and wanted to save on fees. Questrade offered a transfer fee rebate which was a big plus for me. The '50 dollars free trades' offer really caught my eye too when I was signing up. It felt like a solid deal compared to other places. I bought some stocks and the trading fees were definitely lower than what I used to pay. Worth the move for the savings.

Consistent service, reliable platform

This isn't my first time using Questrade; I've had a Self-Directed Investing account for a couple of years now and just opened an RESP Account for my kid. The process for the RESP was just as smooth as when I opened my first account. It's nice to see that consistency. The platform, Questrade Edge, is still reliable for my day-to-day trades. I haven't had any issues with execution or getting my market data, which keeps me coming back instead of checking out competitors like Wealthsimple or TD Direct Investing. The account linking to my bank was quick too, just like last time.

Easy to set up TFSA

I just opened a TFSA Account with Questrade last month. It was pretty straightforward, didn't feel too complicated, which was good for me. I put some money into an ETF and it all just worked. The app, QuestMobile, is decent too, I can check my stuff on the go. Overall, I'm happy with how it went.

Absolutely love my Questwealth Portfolios!

Oh my gosh, I just had to share about my Questwealth Portfolios! I signed up a few months ago because I wanted to get into investing but didn't want to manage everything myself. It's been so easy and amazing! My money is growing and I don't have to stress about picking stocks or anything. The whole setup process was super quick and I just funded it and let them handle the rest. I'm telling everyone I know about this, it's such a game changer for someone like me. I'm definitely going to use them again for future investments!

How long does it typically take to get money into my account so I can start trading? Is it instant if I link my bank?

D Daisy G. 1 month ago
Not instant unfortunately, usually a few business days for bank transfers to clear. I think credit card deposits are faster but there might be fees.

N Nina Foster 1 month ago
Mine took like 3 business days last time from my bank. Definitely not instant like some other apps.

Trying to decide between Questrade and Wealthsimple for self-directed investing. Any thoughts on which one is better for a beginner?

M Mark C. 2 months ago
Questrade is good for more active trading and if you want to trade more stuff like options. Wealthsimple is super simple, literally. Depends on what you're trying to do.

I use both. Questrade has more advanced tools and lower fees for certain trades, but Wealthsimple's app is a bit more user-friendly for just buying stocks/ETFs. For a beginner, Wealthsimple might be easier to start with, then move to Questrade if you get more serious.

Is Questrade safe and legit? Heard some good things but also want to make sure my money isn't gonna disappear. I'm new to this.

A Alex 2 months ago
Totally legit, they're a pretty big Canadian brokerage. Been using them for years without issues.

Yeah they are legit. They're a CIPF member too, so your accounts are protected up to a certain amount in case anything goes wrong with the company itself. Standard for Canadian brokerages.

Any current new account promotions going on? Looking to open a TFSA.

S Sam 2 months ago
They almost always have some kind of new account bonus, usually $50 in free trades or a cash bonus depending on how much you deposit. Check their main page.

Yeah, just signed up and got the $50 free trades. It was an offer code I found online.

Hey, thinking about opening an account here, but I already have an RRSP with TD. Will Questrade cover the transfer fees if I move it over?

J June Beaumont 1 month ago
Yeah, they usually do. I transferred my TFSA last year and they rebated the fees from my old bank. Just make sure to check their current policy.

T Troy Z. 1 month ago
AFAIK they'll cover it if it's over a certain amount, like 15k or something. I'd double check the fine print on their site before initiating.

What's the deal with promo codes? Can I use one if I already started filling out the application but didn't finish it yet?

M Mia Whitfield 2 months ago
Pretty sure you gotta enter it right when you first apply. It's usually a field in the initial application form, can't add it later.

J Josh R. 2 months ago
Nope, has to be at the very beginning. Once you submit, you're locked in without it. Learned that the hard way lol.
